Year 7 |
Art is an inspiring, creative and practical subject that enables students to explore a broad range of skills, techniques and processes. Art empowers students with the skills to express meaningful ideas and to understand the visual world in which we live. Art encourages originality through personal expression within an open, positive and explorative environment. Within Art students learn how to take risks, apply creative thinking, innovate, and solve problems creatively. In Year 7, students develop a knowledge and understanding of the visual elements (particularly line, form, tone and colour) through contextual and practical studies. Each unit introduces pupils to a range of relevant artists and also enables pupils to explore a variety of relevant techniques and processes. In Year 7, students study line first as it is a fundamental element of drawing. Students learn how to draw with accurate and controlled lines before learning how to add tone and form to their artwork. Students will develop 2D and 3D skills and finish the year starting to explore expressive and creative ways of using colour. Each task is linked to an artistic device which introduces students to the concepts and reasons why artists manipulate the visual elements. Each unit aims to incorporate at least two key processes (from drawing, painting, sculpture, printing and digital) ensuring students have experienced the entire breadth of Art & Design skills and techniques by the end of Year 8. Enrichment opportunities are aplenty in Art. Students have the opportunity to go on numerous trips around the UK to museums and galleries. We give students the opportunity to exhibit their work at the end of year Summer Exhibition. Students also have the opportunity to enter competitions and have their work featured on our Twitter page. |

Each task is linked to an artistic device which introduces students to the concepts and reasons why artists manipulate the visual elements. It is expected that students will build on the skills learned in Year 7 (such as line and tone) and start to explore more advanced visual concepts in Year 8 to develop their expressive and conceptual skill set.
